DIY Salt Dough Footprint Olaf Christmas Ornament
With Christmas approaching, it’s the perfect time to get crafty! I love creating a new ornament with the kids every year, and this adorable idea I found on Pinterest couldn’t be missed.
Introducing the Salt Dough Footprint Olaf!
Begin by preparing a batch of salt dough using the following recipe:
Ingredients:
2 Cups Flour
1 Cup Salt
1 Cup Warm Water
Knead the dough until it achieves a soft consistency; the more you knead it, the smoother it will become.
Preheat the oven to 200°F to dry your creation. Alternatively, you can let it air dry. I placed mine in the oven for about 2 hours, then allowed it to air dry for a few days depending on its thickness.
To create the blue background for Olaf, I added blue gel coloring to the dough. This eliminates the need for painting later.
However, after drying, the dough developed a whitish powdery layer, so I ended up painting it blue anyway!
Once your dough is ready, roll it out to your preferred thickness and place your child’s foot onto it to create a footprint.
Press down gently on their toes for clear toe impressions.
Now it’s time to wait for it to dry! Remember to poke a hole at the top while it’s still wet for hanging purposes.
Once dry, start painting the background with blue. After it dries, paint the white body of the snowman, and don’t forget to add rosy cheeks for character!
When the white paint is dry, use the same blue to paint his mouth.
I used a black Sharpie marker to outline his mouth, draw his eyes, eyebrows, hair, arms, and buttons.
Add a painted nose, and there you have it—a delightful keepsake ornament!
While these ornaments are typically meant to be hung on the tree, my kids are older and have larger feet! Even my 1-year-old’s footprint seems too big for a tree ornament, but I plan to hang them on the wall instead.
What is your favorite keepsake to create with your kids during the Christmas season?
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and joyful crafting!
