Everyone has their favorite and least favorite seasons. My all-time favorite is Fall. I cherish the cooler weather that follows the sweltering summer days. There’s something truly special about snuggling into jeans and sweatshirts. Fall is my season. And let’s not forget the stunning foliage that transforms so quickly, creating perfect piles for my kids to jump into!
On the flip side, my least favorite season is Flu Season. Unfortunately, flu season has already begun in Missouri and is spreading quickly. Reports indicate that cases at Children’s Mercy have nearly doubled each week in September. Therefore, healthcare professionals recommend that everyone over six months old get a flu shot this year. The flu can pose serious risks to children aged five and under, particularly those under two. Therefore, if you have young family members, it’s crucial for you to get vaccinated as well.
Staying ahead of the flu virus is crucial. The CDC recommends the flu shot this year instead of a nasal spray vaccine. In addition to getting vaccinated, here are some additional tips to help prevent the flu:
- Wash your hands regularly.
- Cough or sneeze into tissues.
- Ensure adequate sleep.
- Incorporate probiotics (like yogurt) and plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables into your diet.
- Consider taking probiotics.
- Avoid biting your nails.
- Sanitize shared items frequently.
