Boulevardia is an annual celebration in the Kansas City area that honors our nation’s great offerings of beer, food, music, and local art. While many attendees enthusiastically discussed the beer, my son and I had something else on our minds—BACON!
Our go-to spot at Boulevardia is always the Farmland Bacon Club tent. As you approach, be ready for your mouth to water because the scent of freshly cooked bacon fills the air for blocks!
As everyone knows, it’s all about the bacon, and many others there felt the same way. The tent was bustling with fellow bacon enthusiasts, and whether you prefer it crispy or chewy, there were plenty of samples to enjoy. My son kicked things off with a crispy sample before heading to the main stage to compete in the Farmland Bacon Eating Contest.
While my son savored his samples, I explored the rest of the Farmland tent. I was thrilled to see custom screen-printed t-shirts with amusing slogans like “You Had Me At Bacon,” “I (beer mug) Bacon,” and “Dads Are Like Bacon, They Make Everything Better” (perfect for Father’s Day!). It was delightful to observe so many people proudly showcasing their bacon love at the event.
While at the tent, we also made sure to sign up for the Farmland Bacon Club (which is free!) for a chance to win a year’s supply of bacon. The sign-up was quick and easy, allowing us time to check out other delicious offerings before heading to the main stage!
My son was back to defend his title from the 2015 Bacon Eating Contest, competing against 8 other bacon aficionados. Each contestant was given a plate with 30 pieces of bacon, and the goal was to be the first to finish everything!
It was a tight competition—my son (on the left) trailed the leader, Dennis Montgomery (on the right), by a few pieces and decided to go all out, stuffing the remaining bacon on his plate into his mouth.
However, Dennis managed to finish his entire plate of bacon in under two minutes, walking away with the trophy and a year’s supply of Farmland Bacon!
We had an incredible time at the West Bottoms in Kansas City. The combination of live music, refreshing beer, and our favorite bacon made for a perfect weekend.
