Sports enthusiasts in Kansas City have unwavering support for the KC Royals. As we approached the stadium, the excitement in the air was palpable. Though the lines were long and the sun blaring, everyone we encountered was filled with joy and anticipation for the night’s events.
On September 3, 2016, the game was particularly special as it marked Bacon Day at the K, graciously sponsored by Farmland Foods.
What does this entail?
As soon as we entered, we were greeted with bacon-themed rally signs to proudly support our team during the game.
Bacon tasting stations were also available for anyone who wanted to indulge (and who wouldn’t?). The “Team Chewy” and “Team Crispy” t-shirts caught my eye.
The Royals mascot, Sluggerrr, was recreated in bacon for photos in the Sizzle & Snap booth.
However, the biggest hit with our group was the Salvy Perez bobblehead giveaway.
After settling into our seats, we explored the attractions. The kids had a blast guessing how many bacon strips were used to create the Sluggerrr figure in hopes of winning a year’s supply of free bacon!
They were also thrilled to meet Mike Sweeney, a five-time All-Star and the 26th member of the Royals Hall of Fame.
My favorite part of the festivities? The Royals Charities 50/50 Raffle!
Why? The lucky winner not only received a year’s supply of free Farmland bacon, but half of the proceeds were donated to Harvesters – The Community Food Network. Additionally, Farmland matched the raffle earnings with a donation of up to 25,000 pounds of protein to the local food bank.
Farmland not only produces fantastic bacon, but their commitment to our community is commendable. We had an unforgettable evening while also helping provide substantial nourishment to families in need. It was the perfect way to round off a wonderful night.
