This gigantic urban sprawl is a draw any season, but many choose to visit in winter as it’s a great time of year to explore this phenomenal city.
No Beach Needed For This Sunny Destination
Mexico City rarely gets too hot, but to avoid the rainy season, one of the best times to visit is winter. It may be even more fun with all the holiday festivities, but the city is nonstop action even after the calendar flips over to a new year.
Tourists may find early mornings and nights to be chilly, but so are many beach destinations right now.
Mexico City is perfectly suited for winter travel with a mild climate. Temperatures often hit highs in the 70’s and lows in the mid-40s, according to Weather Spark.

Getting around shouldn’t slow you down too much to visit high-end museums, lucha libre matches, or taco stand-hopping.
Safety can be a concern when traveling, but the metro is very safe. Of course, it’s important to remain aware of your surroundings.
The metro has dedicated trains for women and children, which should ease your worries.
Outdoor Attractions Outside The City
Why take a winter trip to escape the cold if you’re not going to enjoy the outdoors? Mexico City’s spring-like weather will have you wanting to be outside most of the day.
The city itself is a perpetual playground, but there are absolute musts on your Mexico City to-do list away from the action.
The first is the ruins of Teotihuacan, which are about an hour away by bus. Even with hordes of tourists, this massive site has enough space for you to delight in ancient history.
Hiking the pyramid is not for the faint of heart, but taking in the views from ground level or atop ruins dating back centuries, visiting Teotihuacan will be one of the highlights of your trip.
Another must-see is the quaint town of Xochimilco, easily accessed by metro. The town itself offers shops and cozy restaurants, but the main appeal is taking a guided ride aboard the colorful trajineras.
Whether going full circle back to where you started or the creepy Island of the Dolls, you are sure to have a blast indulging in floating taco and Michelada boats with Mariachis performing along your scenic journey along the Floating Gardens.
