Traveling in some of the most popular European summer hotspots has just gotten a bit easier, thanks to the expansion of Uber into new markets.
In attempts to meet the increased demand from travelers that this record-breaking summer will likely bring, the king of ride-sharing apps is ramping up their European game.
Uber is adding new products across popular holiday destinations to its summer 2023 roster, including parts of Spain, Portugal, France, Croatia, Malta, and Greece.
The expansion of Uber into many trending locations around Europe is sure to make travel that much easier for American travelers especially, those who likely already have an Uber account set up.
While some of the added countries already see Uber service in major cities, the new additions mostly focus on seasonal hotspots where ride-sharing options are lacking.
Here’s what’s New With Uber In Europe This Summer:
Added Services
In addition to the new locations, Uber has also launched some new features making summer travel easier. Earlier this year, the company added options to make airport pick-ups less of a headache, but now they are taking it a few steps further by launching booking platforms for trains, busses, and Uber flights as well.
Uber Is also adding a seasonal Uber Reserve option, thus enabling customers to advance book their ride up to 90 minutes before with a locked-in price.
Uber Boats In Greece
While London might already have the first Uber boats, it looks as if the company is adding more to the lists. The Uber Boat by Thames Clippers is already a popular service that shuttles people from over 20 piers across London, catering to both tourists and daily commuters.

Now more Uber Boats are joining the fleet, this time a bit more pricey but a lot more luxurious. Travelers around the popular Greek islands Mykonos will now be able to book private speedboats via the app, getting them from point A to B in style.
The boats will ferry passengers around on demand, all booked and paid for in the Uber app, lessening the need for haggling with local drivers, not to mention dealing with cash, two of the biggest hassles of any trip.
@popsugar We’re in our chartered-boat era. 💅 Uber Boat launches in Mykonos on June 28, and yes, it’s as bougie an experience as it sounds. A ride is estimated to be around $130 with no surge pricing, which is actually more affordable (and convenient) than booking your own trip. We were picked up and dropped off at Paraga Beach. Travelers can book speedboat rides for 4-8 people in the Uber app to transport to and from different pickup points in Mykonos. The Islands Of Spain, Italy, And Malta
Spain is seeing the expansion of Uber on the trending islands of Majorca and Tenerife, two markets that have been notorious for taxi hassles and transportation headaches. Meaning exploring these two stunning Spanish islands will be that much easier this summer.
Italy’s islands will also benefit from the add-on of Uber this summer, with both Sicily and Sardinia welcoming back the service, which has been on hiatus since last season. Malta is also welcoming back Uber, helping people avoid the traffic that the island can be famous for.
Croatia & Portugal
Another super-popular country that will benefit from Uber services this busy summer season is Croatia, with the app being available in hot spots such as Split, Zadar, Dubrovnik, Rijeka, and the island of Pag.
An additional trending destination that is welcoming Uber to their streets is Portugal’s Algarve coast, where the app will help people get from the postcard-perfect beach towns and villages to the nearest beaches easier than before.
France
The French coast will see Uber popups in seasonal hotspots, which will make travel in these places that much easier. Summer favorites such as Bordeaux, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, and Biarritz will be added to the Uber network.
One thing to note is that Bordeaux will be the lucky recipient of Uber’s new premium product, “Uber Berline,” which is available for bookings for sightseeing trips and trips to the region’s famous vineyards and beyond.
The Way Forward?
With all these added features, as well as the changes that Uber has implemented already, it’s safe to say that the traveler experience will become much smoother this summer. While there is no end of ride-sharing apps available in various countries, using Uber in the past has sometimes become a bit of a hassle in some places.
Certain holiday hotspots have seen users try to navigate the politics around the gig economy and the local businesses, such as in Cancun, but strides are being made to smooth relations with local taxi drivers and Uber drivers, so hopefully the troubles will all be in the past, and these new changes are a step in the right direction for ride-sharing worldwide.
