April is here, which means spring break (or Easter to some), and that also means taking a vacation that lasts up to a week.

Most Americans want to head somewhere warm after suffering through the cold for most of the year, and Expedia is noticing a rising trend in searches for warmer climates.

Not to say Americans are habitual, but we’ve seen the same destinations appearing around this time in other years.

Traveling to the same place can be a good thing. Sometimes you can discover something new about a favorite destination by looking at it differently.

The Caribbean is beautiful since it has diverse cultures, gastronomy, and people.

If you’re considering heading somewhere this April, check out some of these destinations.

They might not surprise you since most of them have been favorites for quite some time now, but they are a sure bet for some sun, great beaches, and fantastic food.

According to Expedia, here are the top three destinations to visit:

San Juan, Puerto Rico

San Juan, Puerto Rico, is one of the minor islands in the Greater Antilles, but it holds a culture and flavor that is immediately recognizable.

From dancing salsa to eating foods like mofongo (fried plantains), the island has tons of character that anyone will appreciate. It’s also extremely close to the United States, making this an easy trip.

Even better, you don’t need a passport to travel here. Considered by some “a modern-day colony” of the United States, traveling here just requires a U.S. license or identification.

Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, United States.

San Juan is the capital city, and it holds treasures like el Viejo San Juan, a colonial architecture masterpiece and the oldest city in the United States.

More than just its architecture, you can find some of the best food and drink in San Juan.

Places like The Cannon Club (a piano wine bar) and La Factoría have some of the best cocktails and drinks in the city, and the ambiance is to die for.

Here you’ll drink and (possibly dance) with locals and travelers in 500-year-old buildings once used by the Spanish military.

Other places to check out are Museo de Las Americas which showcases some of the colonial histories on the island, and Atlantic Beach.

These are just examples of the island’s diversity, and it’s no surprise searches have risen 10% for this tiny but mighty destination.

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Another Caribbean island that has seen flight searches rise by about 10% is the Dominican Republic.

Neighboring Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic is home to some of the best all-inclusive hotels, and you can find a significant portion of them in Punta Cana.

The beaches here are the main attraction, but if you find yourself on the island, check out some local food.

Dishes like mangú (mashed plantains) are a local favorite and an excellent way to discover gastronomy that genuinely belongs to the island.

Pro tip: order it for breakfast with some eggs and salami. It’ll blow your mind.

Montego Bay, Jamaica

Lastly, we have Montego Bay, Jamaica. There are so many things to do in this city that it’s impossible to explore all of them during one visit.

According to Expedia, searches have risen this month by 20%, which is fantastic and not a surprise considering how amazing this place is.

Like two other Caribbean islands, gastronomy is on another level. If you’ve never had jerk chicken (seasoned chicken) before, you need to book a flight here immediately!

Attractions like Dunn’s River Falls and the Blue Hole are some favorites.

Montego Bay also has some of the best beaches in the Caribbean. Places like Doctor’s Cave Beach are famous for their crystal blue waters.

Each island offers something different to travelers, and it’s no surprise they’re becoming increasingly popular every year.

According to Expedia, these are the top three destinations to visit right now. We know either three of these destinations will offer a fantastic vacation.
