Everyone wants to know what the trending destinations will be for 2024.
Where will you see your travel friends posting on TikTok and Instagram from and instantly be jealous? If only there was some way to get ahead of the curve…
Well, it’s not guaranteed, but one great guide is the latest Tripadvisor list of Trending Destinations for 2024.
As well as revealing the top destinations, Tripadvisor also discovered that 45% of travelers are planning three or more trips, while 93% of Americans plan to spend the same or more on travel this year compared to last.
And that really shows in this list, with the top 5 all located in the wonderful continent of Asia.
5) Sapa, Vietnam
Hidden away in Vietnam’s mountainous north, Sapa is the perfect place to get an authentic taste of the culture in this Southeast Asian beauty – literally and figuratively.
The area around this town is rich in rice paddies, while French influence from the past provides interesting architecture and food options.
It’s also a great place for hikers and lovers of the outdoors thanks to the stunningly beautiful nature surrounding its remote location.
4) Palawan Island, Philippines
Surrounded by stunning reefs, turquoise seas, and charming fishing villages, Palawan is a largely unspoiled paradise in the Philippines.
The Philippines is breaking tourism records right now, and that’s in no short part down to unique destinations such as Palawan.
If lazy afternoons in a comfortable hammock punctuated by trips to UNESCO World Heritage Sites are your thing, then Palawan is for you.
3) Ha Long Bay, Vietnam
A place that could be considered the jewel in Vietnam’s crown, Ha Long Bay is like something out of a dream when you imagine Southeast Asia.
The distinct rocky islands jutting up out of the ocean make this place unforgettable, as does spending the night on one of its boat hotels or cruise ships.
It’s also a great place to rent a kayak and explore the unique caves and coves for yourself.
Vietnam is also one of the cheapest countries in this region, so all the more reason to take a trip there in 2024.
2) Seoul, South Korea
Quickly becoming the coolest place on the planet right now, South Korea is hitting all the right notes for travelers looking for somewhere unique.
The capital city of Seoul is perhaps the best place to sample the country – its streets blend modern neon with ancient architecture and are a great place to sample the best of Korean food (barbecue, bibimbap, and banchan) and also Korean culture (K-pop and hit TV shows).
The popularity of Seoul also means more airlines are creating new flight paths to the city.
1) Tokyo, Japan
Consistently ranking highly on reports of trending destinations, Tokyo could be set to have quite the year when it comes to travel.
Japan’s megacity is an intoxicating place filled with sights, smells, and sounds that will captivate the curious traveler.
It’s a city where you could easily stay a week and still have only scratched the surface, catering to those who love history with its fascinating temples and castles and to food and nightlife lovers with areas such as Shinjuku.
Since the first time I visited, I have been back several times and will continue to do so because it’s a place that just gets under your skin.
Here are my three tips to get the most of your visit to Tokyo:
- Spend a few hours being dazzled by the lights and sounds of Akihabara. This amazing district has multistorey videogame arcades packed with Japanese classics that will take you back to your childhood.
- Go to Shibuya but skip the crossing. It’s just a crossing after all, but the area of Shibuya is full of amazing restaurants and cool craft beer bars just waiting to be explored – Mikkeller is my top recommendation.
- Do the Tokyo Tower over the Tokyo Skytree. It’s usually a little quieter, is a much more distinct building, and has a cheaper entry fee – the views are just as great.
