Americans love a good beach vibe, and now’s the season for a quick getaway to escape the cold weather and find yourself somewhere with a bit of sun!
While a good portion of the U.S. is awaiting the first snowfall or temperatures below zero, there are still many spots to visit that can provide both warm weather and BEACHES.
Just in time for people to start booking, AirBnB launched their annual travel trends report, giving us an insight into where Americans are booking and what. Between January 1st and September 15th, most U.S. travelers are searching for locations with beaches- which is no surprise during the winter.
Whether you’re looking for a cliff-side adventure or some R&R along the sandy shores, we’ve rounded up the top 3 beach destinations to visit in the U.S. this winter.

San Diego, California
Surprise, surprise, California made it on the list: and for good reason. A mild climate year-round, San Diego is one of the best beach hubs for your winter getaway.
All beaches in San Diego vary slightly… Cliffside views, sandy shores, or beaches with seal colonies – it’s difficult to decide where to go. Coronado Beach is a great place to start, with blue waters surrounded by lush greenery and soft sands (you may even get a glimpse of some U.S. Military trainees while you’re here).
A staple to see when in San Diego is of course La Jolla. A rugged cliffside, seals, and some of the best waters for snorkeling, swimming, or diving, this beach is an adventure-lovers playground (and it’s not too far from the city).
Siesta Key, Florida
When you think of sandy beaches and blue waters in the U.S., I’m sure Florida springs to mind. An oasis in the States, Siesta Key truly is a winter bird’s paradise, and it really has it all!
Affordable flights and beautiful beaches are enough to convince anyone, and if you are visiting, you’ll be in for a treat when you see just how astounding the water is.
A powdery coast and soft blue hues, Siesta Beach should be first priority upon landing. Named one of the best beaches in the 2020 Traveler’s Choice Awards, Siesta is perfect for a day of rest and relaxation with the sounds of the waves in the background.
Maui, Hawaii
Fires in the area have left travelers wondering if it’s still safe to visit Maui, and locals say yes! According to locals, the island needs visitors to increase tourism and get this beautiful location back up and running like before.
The Wailea Resort is known for its various beaches (which can be used by guests, but are also open to the public). When the ocean is still, snorkeling here is top tier – keep your eyes peeled for those friendly fishes or turtles.
You know what’s as appealing as a sandy beach or vibrant marine life? Sunny weather. Luckily for Americans visiting in the winter, the high typically stays at a steady 70 or so degrees, so beach hopping won’t be a problem at all.
