Travel costs have skyrocketed this summer, leading many travelers to wonder if it’s still possible to travel internationally without spending a ton of money.

The cost of international travel is up as much as 25% in popular destinations like Europe, but there are still a handful of international destinations where you can have an affordable vacation.

According to a new study from travel insurance provider Squaremouth that takes into account the average cost of covered trips, these are the cheapest international destinations right now:

1. Colombia

Colombia leads the way as the cheapest international travel destination right now. This South American country, which once had a reputation for being very dangerous, is now regarded as a more safe tourist destination that offers great value for money.

Though travelers should still take precautions, as the State Department lists Colombia as a Level 3: Reconsider Travel country.

If you’re in search of beaches, head to Colombia’s Caribbean coast. The colorful city of Cartagena now has nonstop flights from the U.S. and is located near the beautiful Rosario Islands. You can also travel further afield to the stunning beaches of Tayrona National Park.

However, there are some great alternatives to Cancun and other pricy destinations like Tulum and Playa del Carmen that offer excellent value for your money.
