Ever since borders reopened and international travel resumed restriction-free, flight prices have skyrocketed to unprecedented levels, an upward trend that began in early 2022 and that is likely to continue well into late 2023, to the dismay of budget travelers.
They were particularly high over summer in response to the soaring demand when millions of Americans flocked into Europe, the Caribbean, and other sunny spots for their yearly getaways, but now that the peak season is tailing off, airfares are set to normalize again, even if temporarily.
In fact, they are set to drop significantly traveling to 6 popular international destinations, meaning now is the time to tap into that holiday savings account and book your long-awaited vacation:
Oslo, Norway
According to Expedia‘s latest Fall Travel Forecast, the Average Ticket Price (ATP) on Norway-bound flights is down drastically for the upcoming season.
More specifically, Oslo flights are up to 40% cheaper compared to the summer period.
Oslo is Norway’s capital and its cultural and financial center, home to world-renowned museums, such as the Munch Museum, where Edvard Munch’s famous Scream and Madonna paintings are housed, the Oslo Opera House, which seems to rise out of the icy sea, and the Akershus Fortress.

Stockholm, Sweden
Yet another Scandinavian nation is expected to see a significant drop in airfares come September, with Stockholm, Sweden registering a decrease in ATP of nearly 35%. If exploring the ocher-colored streets of the Swedish capital is on your bucket list, now is the time to book those flights.
Stockholm is best known for its well-preserved Old Town, locally known as Gamla Stan, part of a complex ecosystem of inter-connected islets that form the Stockholm archipelago.

Beyond Gamla Stan’s cobblestone streets and colorful medieval buildings, some of Stockholm’s main attractions are Skansen, the world’s oldest open-air museum and a folk park chronicling life in rural Sweden in past centuries, the stately Royal Palace, and the fascinating ABBA Museum.
Ibiza, Spain
Spain’s party capital, Ibiza, is a classic post-season destination as it stays warm long after summer is over due to being a subtropical island in the Mediterranean Sea, easily the hottest region in Europe, and where autumns are balmy and winters pretty mild.
Pick from an ancient, whitewashed citadel bounded by a turquoise-colored ocean – Ibiza Town – or modern resort zones with a wide array of entertainment options and a lively nightife, in either Sant Antoni de Portmany or Sant Josep de sa Talaia: this offshore paradise will not disappoint you.
If you’re dreaming of Ibiza’s – and its smaller sister island of Formentera – and their sandy beaches and riotous nightlife, you’ll be thrilled to know the Average Ticket Price is down nearly 35% this fall compared to summer, as verified by Expedia.
Tenerife, Spain
The largest island in Spain’s autonomous province of the Canary Islands, Tenerife also boasts great weather in the fall, miles on miles of pristine coastline, and gorgeous swimming spots that will bring out the beach lover in you.
Tenerife’s trendiest cities include Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a bustling capital home to over 200,000 residents, famous for its numerous green areas and a skyscraper-dotted skyline, the quaint cathedral town of San Cristobal de la Laguna, and the upscale seaside resort of Los Cristianos.
ATPs are down by 30% beginning in the fall, and Americans in particular have a reason to celebrate the sharp drop in flight prices, as Tenerife is the only island in the Macaronesian archipelago that currently hosts nonstop flights from the United States.
Japan, Tokyo
With its muted green colors and foliage, astoundingly beautiful nature, and mild post-summer weather, Japan is hands down one of the best fall destinations there are, and luckily for the shinnichi, or Japanophiles out there, visiting in the upcoming season will be a lot cheaper.
As we have reported already, tourists traveling to Japan now benefit from a depreciated Yen, which in turn increases the purchasing power of those earning in stronger currencies, such as the American dollar, and now, Expedia confirms even flight tickets are getting cheaper.
More specifically, traveling to Tokyo, you should expect to pay 20% less than you would over the summer, and with the reinstated air links between Japan and America, and the abolition of health controls, there is no better time to embark on this Trans-Pacific adventure than in autumn 2023.
Paris, France
Finally, the last entry on this list is the majestic French capital of Paris, often deemed its continent’s beating heart and its classiest city.
Traversed by wide boulevards lined by Haussman-style and Belle epoque buildings, and with some of the most iconic manmade creations under its belt, Paris is the quintessential European city break and a sprawling metropolis with a diverse offer.
Stroll the picturesque streets of Montmartre, where sweeping panoramas of the sea of traditional mansard roofs can be enjoyed, or get lost in the Marais district for a taste of the local Bohemian life;
Walk the extent of the River Seine, from the Eiffel Tower, passing by the Louvre Museum, all the way to Notre Dame; sip on some coffee as you people-watch in a floral cafe in the Latin Quarter: you’ll end up as in love with Paris as all of those long-dead poets, painters, writers and songsmiths once were.
Oh, and let’s not forget the most relevant part to this story: the City of Love’s ATPs are down by more than 20%.
