There’s no better time than the beginning of a new year to update a travel bucket list – we go into the search process with a refreshed perspective and newfound interests, which is why so many travelers are spending the first month of 2024 doing their due diligence on the places they’re planning to explore throughout the remaining eleven.
January isn’t even over yet, and new, interesting data on emerging trends is already coming to light.
Amadeus Hospitality just released a report on travel insights for 2024 with a focus on the Americas, analyzing the search traffic of people planning their next vacation.
According to their findings, there are three particular North American destinations that are trending like never before.
3. Los Angeles
The entertainment capital of the world has long been a high-ticket item on many travelers’ bucket lists, which is partly due to its iconic status, and partly due to the sheer number of sights, events, and attractions to explore in the city.
What makes Americans, in particular, keep coming back to the sunny Californian hub time and time again is the fact that there’s probably no other place in the entire country that captures the essence of the American Dream quite like LA.
Here, you can escape the monotony and stresses of your everyday life and immerse yourself in thoughts of old Hollywood stars, glamorous red carpets, and that faint yet unrealistic belief that, in an instance, your life could do a 180° turn.
And after the world has come out of what can only be described as a rough few years, that positive atmosphere combined with sunny skies and fun events is just what most travelers need to get out of their rut.
So, if you’re one of the millions of people who’ve shown interest in visiting Los Angeles this year, take this as a sign to discover or re-explore not only the city’s iconic attractions (think the Hollywood Sign, Walk of Fame, and Grauman’s Chinese Theatre) but also the surrounding natural sights.
Whether that constitutes a sunbathing session in Santa Monica, a hike through Griffith Park, or something else entirely – that’s up to you.
2. Cancun
In a somewhat surprising turn of events, Cancun, America’s favorite international destination that’s also breaking all-time tourism records as we speak, didn’t make it to No. 1.
Still, the dozens of new clubs and resorts set to open this year, increased safety measures, decreased flight prices, and the long-awaited Maya train are all keeping travelers talking (and searching) about Cancun.
Millions of travelers have shown interest in making the Mexican hotspot part of their 2024 itinerary, each envisioning a tropical paradise complete with azure waters, pristine beaches, and electric nightlife, and though the image alone is pretty hard to compete with, those lucky enough to finalize their plans will find that Cancun actually manages to surpass the sky-high expectations.
While the beaches here truly are breathtaking, my top advice would be not to sleep on the cultural and historical attractions, either.
Yes, Cancun is a famous resort town where you can just kick back and relax, but I assure you that taking an extra day to explore the nearby Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, Tulum, and Coba will make your trip that much more memorable.
1. New York
After setting a new visitor record just a couple of months ago, New York is setting off to what seems like yet another historic year for tourism since travelers are currently researching it more than any other destination on Earth.
At this point, there’s no need for me to describe what makes New York the quintessential U.S. city break – between the endless iconic attractions and just the general feel you get knowing that you’re standing in what’s practically the capital of the world, travelers have plenty of reasons as is to add the Big Apple to their bucket list.
So, make 2024 the year to watch a Broadway show, explore the MET, and go on a gastronomic journey through Chinatown, Little Italy, and Harlem.
