If you’re dreaming of an idyllic Mexican getaway this fall, yet you’re still not entirely sure where to go for a relaxing atmosphere and pristine beaches, perhaps it’s this trendy coastal resort – the fastest-growing one in Mexico – you should consider.

For the first time in History, Los Cabos, which comprises both Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo, is growing faster than every single other Mexican destination, and the numbers don’t lie:

It is growing at a much faster pace than the competition as more vacationers are drawn to its world-class amenities, peaceful sandy crescents, and unmatched hospitality.

In case you’ve been wondering why the ‘Capes’ are stealing the spotlight this year, here is why:

Why Is Cabo So Popular Right Now?

Cabo, as it is popularly called by visitors, sits on the Southern tip of the Baja California peninsula, bounded by the azure Pacific Ocean, and it’s always been a hugely popular destination among Americans, particularly West Coast residents.

They often head to Cabo for their yearly sunny holidays, and the fact it ranks among Mexico’s three busiest is hardly surprising, considering the amount of flights originating from the States, and how more keep getting added.

Nevertheless, it takes a tourism giant to face up to Cancun, and no matter how popular they are, Mexico’s secondary beach cities have always paled in comparison to their Caribbean competitors, at least when it comes to arrival figures.

Cabo Continues To Grow

In January, at the peak of Mexico’s high season, Cabo posted a 41.2% year-on-year growth, the most out of any tourist city in Mexico, while so far this year, it has a 1.9% lead over the second-fastest growing destination.

Now, this may not sound like much, but when we take into account the Mexican Caribbean’s soaring popularity and its worldwide fame – a majority of tourists in Cabo mostly hail from the United States, and more specifically even, the West Coast – it’s clear Cabo’s success, is nothing short of phenomenal.

Interestingly, Cabo’s success has coincided with this year’s sargassum season, when the smelly algae is known to batter the Caribbean’s typically pristine coast.

Cabo, on the other hand, does not see any seaweed, as the occurrence is not observed in the Pacific region.

But now that sargassum is subsiding and Cabo continues to grow, we may have reasons to believe it will not back down anytime soon.

World-Class Amenities

Part of the reason why the Mexican Capes are so popular among tourists is their well-equipped resort zone, famous for its myriad of luxurious listings, and home to one of the top-rated all-inclusive hotels in the world, the landmark Grand Velas.

After enduring three years of a harrowing global pandemic, American travelers do not want to worry about the minutia of planning a one-week trip away from home, and San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas are their best bet at traveling abroad while completely unwinding.

And, of course, gorging on sumptuous breakfast spreads and sipping on tropical drinks by the poolside.

According to Forbes, three of the best all-inclusive hotels in Mexico belong to the power duo, including Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos, Grand Solmar at Rancho San Lucas, and Grand Velas Los Cabos, which all serve as a testament to the twin cities’ world-class amenities.

When staying at a Cabo resort, guests are reassured they will be treated like royalty, as the well-trained, English-speaking staff caters to their every need.

Additionally, as reported previously, Los Cabos has the highest concentration of tranquil resorts and spas anywhere in the subcontinent, placing it at the front of one of 2023’s leading travel trends: wellness.

Forget about that all-too-familiar stress associated with traveling abroad: their only job is to land safely, get on that hotel transfer, check-in, and then relax.

It Is Easy To Get There

Another reason why Cabo is so popular, and one that’s certainly fuelled its post-crisis growth, is how easy it is to travel there.

Los Cabos International Airport hosts a number of flights from the United States and Canada, usually at extremely affordable rates, and it’s currently one of the three most popular entry points for Americans and Canadians traveling to Mexico, behind only Cancun and Mexico City.

The list – which is quite extensive – can be seen here:

Cabo Is A Safe Place To Visit

Cabo has a very relaxed atmosphere, and the laid-back attitude of the residents is certainly linked to the incredibly low rates of crime in the region:

A majority of them consider Los Cabos safe to live in, and there’s no doubt this has an extremely positive impact on tourist arrivals.

Baja California Sur, the state where both cities are located, has been included in the State Department’s Level 2 listing, meaning Americans are not discouraged from visiting, nor expressly told to avoid. Instead, they must merely exercise ‘greater caution’ due to petty crime.

With that being said, crime is non-existent within resort zones, and the stricter surveillance added to touristy areas this year has rendered them almost crime-free, with very few, if any incidents reported in recent weeks.

Breathtaking Natural Sights

And then there is Cabo’s breathtaking nature, of course, what with its exuberant marine parks, unruffled golden sands and surfing spots, and iconic ‘Arco’, protruding out of the Pacific like a gateway into paradise.

Some of the beaches may not be suitable for swimming due to the strong currents and waves, but there are still a handful of charming swimming spots worth checking out, such as Playa Medano and Lovers Beach, both favorites among visitors due to their shallow, warm waters, and soft golden sands.

Other than the numerous resorts and award-winning spas, Cabo’s popularity is also attributed to the friendliness of locals: whether it’s hospitality staff or ordinary cabeños in Downtown Cabo San Lucas, they will be greeted with friendly, genuine smiles and unparalleled hospitality.

Cabo is rising to prominence because it has set a new standard for the luxury travel industry, offering guests the highest level of comfort. The hotel staff are welcoming, the beaches are amazing, and its nature is simply stunning.

While it is unlikely Cabo will surpass the Mexican Caribbean anytime soon in total visitors, it is clear it is becoming a go-to destination in the sunny south.
