Cabo Continues To Grow
In January, at the peak of Mexico’s high season, Cabo posted a 41.2% year-on-year growth, the most out of any tourist city in Mexico, while so far this year, it has a 1.9% lead over the second-fastest growing destination.
Now, this may not sound like much, but when we take into account the Mexican Caribbean’s soaring popularity and its worldwide fame – a majority of tourists in Cabo mostly hail from the United States, and more specifically even, the West Coast – it’s clear Cabo’s success, is nothing short of phenomenal.
Interestingly, Cabo’s success has coincided with this year’s sargassum season, when the smelly algae is known to batter the Caribbean’s typically pristine coast.
Cabo, on the other hand, does not see any seaweed, as the occurrence is not observed in the Pacific region.
But now that sargassum is subsiding and Cabo continues to grow, we may have reasons to believe it will not back down anytime soon.

Another reason why Cabo is so popular, and one that’s certainly fuelled its post-crisis growth, is how easy it is to travel there.
Los Cabos International Airport hosts a number of flights from the United States and Canada, usually at extremely affordable rates, and it’s currently one of the three most popular entry points for Americans and Canadians traveling to Mexico, behind only Cancun and Mexico City.

A majority of them consider Los Cabos safe to live in, and there’s no doubt this has an extremely positive impact on tourist arrivals.
Baja California Sur, the state where both cities are located, has been included in the State Department’s Level 2 listing, meaning Americans are not discouraged from visiting, nor expressly told to avoid. Instead, they must merely exercise ‘greater caution’ due to petty crime.
With that being said, crime is non-existent within resort zones, and the stricter surveillance added to touristy areas this year has rendered them almost crime-free, with very few, if any incidents reported in recent weeks.
Breathtaking Natural Sights
And then there is Cabo’s breathtaking nature, of course, what with its exuberant marine parks, unruffled golden sands and surfing spots, and iconic ‘Arco’, protruding out of the Pacific like a gateway into paradise.
Some of the beaches may not be suitable for swimming due to the strong currents and waves, but there are still a handful of charming swimming spots worth checking out, such as Playa Medano and Lovers Beach, both favorites among visitors due to their shallow, warm waters, and soft golden sands.
Other than the numerous resorts and award-winning spas, Cabo’s popularity is also attributed to the friendliness of locals: whether it’s hospitality staff or ordinary cabeños in Downtown Cabo San Lucas, they will be greeted with friendly, genuine smiles and unparalleled hospitality.
Cabo is rising to prominence because it has set a new standard for the luxury travel industry, offering guests the highest level of comfort. The hotel staff are welcoming, the beaches are amazing, and its nature is simply stunning.
While it is unlikely Cabo will surpass the Mexican Caribbean anytime soon in total visitors, it is clear it is becoming a go-to destination in the sunny south.
