This past summer was the most expensive season on record for booking flights. Airfare soared to record heights, causing many American travelers to rethink their summer travel plans.

Fortunately, flight prices have cooled off significantly this fall.

For travelers seeking an international getaway, flights to many popular destinations abroad are significantly cheaper during the fall.

And within the United States, airfare has dropped even further on popular domestic destinations. If you’re hoping to plan a last-minute fall getaway, these are the best cities in the U.S. to travel to.

According to data from flight booking platform Hopper, these are the top five destinations in the U.S. where flight prices have dropped the most.

1. New York, NY

New York is one of the best cities in the U.S. to visit during the fall. The weather is finally cooling off, summer tourist crowds have dispersed, and you can see some beautiful fall foliage in Central Park.

It’s the perfect time to visit and enjoy this city’s world-class museums, catch a Broadway show, and sample some of New York’s diverse cuisine.

The average cost of a round-trip flight to New York right now is just $174, a 34% decrease compared to the summer, making this the best time to book your trip.

2. Las Vegas, NV

Las Vegas is another one of the most popular travel destinations in the United States, and there’s a lot more to it than just casinos, gambling, and nightlife.

Several new museums, entertainment options, and activities have come to Las Vegas this year. This city in the desert is also within easy driving distance of Red Rock Canyon and Death Valley National Park. Fall is a good time to visit because the weather is not quite as hot as it is in the scorching summer.

Flights to Las Vegas are about $188 round-trip right now, a decrease of 24% compared to summer.

3. Los Angeles, CA

Flights to Los Angeles have seen the biggest drop in cost so far this fall. Currently, airfare is down a whopping 40% compared to this summer, with round-trip flights averaging $179.

Los Angeles is a great destination to visit year-round, but fall is particularly lovely with fewer crowds, cleaner air, and mild weather.

There’s a lot to do in Los Angeles itself, like visiting the iconic Hollywood sign or the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But there are also plenty of things to do in the surrounding area, like visiting the iconic Disneyland theme park in Anaheim or checking out nearby beaches like Santa Monica and Malibu.

4. Orlando, FL

Orlando is one of the top tourist destinations in the United States, and for good reason. It’s home to theme parks like Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando, which draw millions of families with children and adult travelers alike each year.

However, there are also lots of reasons to visit Orlando outside the theme parks.

While Orlando is known for always having lots of cheap flights, airfares have dropped 32% further this fall, with round-trip flights averaging just $137.

5. Dallas, TX

Another destination in the U.S. where airfare has dropped the most recently is Dallas. This Texas city is one of the fastest-growing in the United States right now.

There are tons of things to do in Dallas, from museums to botanical gardens to outdoor activities to great restaurants and more. While Texas is notoriously hot during the summer, fall is a great time to visit for milder weather.

Flights to Dallas are currently around $203 round-trip, a 30% decrease from this summer.
