This last summer season brought on new travel records, renewed interest in lesser-known destinations, and new tourism trends that have just been revealed.
Forward Keys, a company whose focus is analyzing the latest travel industry statistics, recently released a report that highlighted the top fastest-growing countries in the world.
Spoiler alert — the top 4 are all located within 1,650 miles (2,655 kilometers) of one another.
Costa Rica
It seems like Costa Rica is on an upward trajectory with no end in sight.
Just last year, the country was crowned Central America’s leading destination, beating even better-known international hotspots like Mexico and Belize.
What Costa Rica might have once lacked in international appeal, it more than made up for in natural landscapes, rich biodiversity, and abundant outdoor adventures.
Beachgoers will also be happy to learn that the country boasts some truly stunning, untouched beaches that give their over-commercialized counterparts a run for their money.
These attributes have all contributed to Costa Rica maintaining its status as a fast-growing destination, this time outpacing not just other Central American countries but the entire world.
Since 2019, tourism in the country has grown by 19%, marking the type of post-pandemic recovery that most destinations can only dream of.
Dominican Republic
It’s safe to say that the Dominican Republic has had one of, if not the most successful summer in history, breaking all-time tourism records and topping the list of the fastest-growing Caribbean destinations.
That’s why you’ll be hard-pressed to find any official list of current trendy destinations that don’t include this stunning, geographically diverse nation – this ranking is no exception.
The Dominican Republic has experienced a 5% increase in tourists since 2022 and a whopping 22% increase from pre-pandemic numbers.
What’s more, travel in the area shows no signs of slowing down.
During this upcoming fall and winter season, tourism is projected to increase by up to 54%, speaking to a long-lasting change in how international visitors view the Dominican Republic.
Colombia
Recent safety concerns seem to be no match for Colombia’s tourism, as travelers are still flocking to the country in hopes of getting to experience the famous Caño Cristales, Tatacoa Desert, and Cocora Valley, among many other natural, cultural, and historical attractions.
If you’re also one of the people set on visiting Colombia before the year ends, you’ll want to take some extra measures to ensure a safe, peaceful trip.
Solo female travelers will need to be especially careful, so start by doing your due diligence when it comes to your destination of choice.
It’s worth noting that though Colombia was ranked at no. 3 based on its growth rate from 2019, the country boasts one of the highest growth rates from 2022, having welcomed 36% more tourists this year.
With all that said, it’s still hard to speak of future tourism trends in the country.
Though local governing bodies have taken some action to ensure a safe space for travelers, whether the country will be able to turn this unwavering interest into international success remains to be seen.
Jamaica
A mere few months after breaking its all-time tourism record, Jamaica proves that its exceptional rise to mainstream tourism is a permanent shift and not just a fleeting trend.
The Caribbean nation was ranked no. 4 in the “Fastest Growing Countries In The World” list, showcasing a 15% increase in visitors from last year and a 14% increase from pre-pandemic numbers.
According to recent reports, this fall will just further advance Jamaica’s ever-growing tourism industry, with Americans ranking the island as one of their top destinations.
Considering the country’s natural wonders, underrated cultural scene, diverse offerings, and divine weather, we can only expect these numbers to increase as time goes on.
