While many travelers clear out their schedule during summer, the fall season is the perfect time to escape to Ciudad de Mexico.
The biggest city in North America is a treasure trove of awesome sights and cultural experiences. With endless fun things to do, it’s no wonder why travelers flock here in droves.
From riding through the stunning canals of Xochimilco to taking selfies at the always photo-worthy Belles Artes building, travelers are often floored by how much they love this place.
Mexico City is a gem year-round, but fall may just be the best time to visit.
Here is why one of Mexico’s trendiest cities is perfect for a fall getaway:
A Quick Escape
Summer is a time for adventure, which often is an extended vacation. School is out, and vacation days are ready to be cashed in.
Without a doubt, you are ready to simply jet away for an unforgettable trip. The travel bug doesn’t go away in the fall, but sometimes our calendars don’t allow for a long trip this time of year.
The good news is Mexico City is not far away, given its central location.
With its conveniently located airport with Ubers and taxis ready to pick you up, along with an efficient subway system, it’s easy to jump right into ‘vacation mode’.
Most U.S.-based airlines fly here, so it’s not hard to reach at all. Many of those flights are direct to save you even more time.
In fact, this city is one of the best weekend getaways you could have internationally. With so much to experience, you would be shocked by how many things you can check off in a short time.
Amazing Weather
To many people, simply hearing the word “Mexico” makes them think it must be hot. While many of Mexico’s top beach destinations can see red hot temps, that’s not the case here in Mexico City.

Fun nights out may require a sweater in the high 40s to lower 50s. Mexico City is easy to get around on foot or bike in touristy areas.
Seeing the gorgeous Chapultepec Park is a must, and there are cheap bikes to rent just outside the entrance.
There are even dedicated bike lanes. The nice weather makes exploring all the more enjoyable, with the beautiful tree-lined streets intermingled with the city’s stunning architecture.
Airfare Drops
While airfare may not quite see the drastic drops of certain European cities in the fall, it’s enough to make you whip out your credit card.
Priceline reported average round-trip costs are $560, yet it’s important to remember this is an average price.
There are definitely flights available for cheaper than this as low-cost carriers fly here as well, including airlines of Mexican origin.
It just so happens that Mexico’s skies were just designated with the top safety rating possible by the FAA.
Travelers should feel super safe if they find a better deal with a Mexican carrier over who they would normally take to fly.
A Haven For Solo Travelers And Digital Nomads
Mexico City is a fun getaway for every type of traveler, including families. Yet, solo travelers and digital nomads alike have taken this city by storm.
With its affordable cost of living, a wide range of comfortable accommodations, and endless things to experience, it’s the perfect mix for remote workers and solo travelers.
Of course, these two travel trends often go hand in hand. What is great about fall is the summer tourist crowds tend to dissipate.
This allows more travelers to immerse themselves culturally in their day-to-day lives rather than bump elbows with tourists in the Zocalo.
