While most summer hotspots that filled our social media feeds this past season are starting to deal with notable decreases in visitor numbers, there’s one particular destination that seems to have captured travelers’ interest year-round.
Though full of dreamy beaches, this destination is proving that its rich culture and vibrancy outweigh even its stunning Riviera as inbound flights have just reached all-time highs.
Over 10.5 million seats were booked in flights to Spain this October, a number that sets a new all-time record for the Iberian country.
The previous record for the month of October was set in 2019, with 10.1 million booked seats.
These figures show that the gorgeous international hotspot is not only recovering but also outpacing pre-pandemic numbers by almost 4%.
So, what are the reasons behind this impressive surge in popularity?
Plenty To See And Do
Spain is a country deeply rooted in history and culture, offering tourists plenty to see and do. Its cities are adorned with architectural marvels that reflect a blend of Moorish, Gothic, and Baroque influences.
Best of all – no two destinations are the same.
While the likes of Barcelona, Madrid, and Malaga might share similar levels of popularity, each exudes a unique kind of charm that caters to a specific type of traveler.
Barcelona is lively, vibrant, and beachy – perfect for those looking for a fun and warm autumnal getaway surrounded by plenty of famous attractions.
Madrid boasts a more contemporary, cosmopolitan kind of allure that speaks more to city trippers. Malaga, on the other hand, is most famous for its rich artistic past.
Choosing just one destination to explore might prove to be a bit of a challenge.
For the best, most authentic Spanish experience, I’d recommend scheduling at least a few days in each of the country’s biggest cities.
After all, there are lots of attractions you won’t want to miss out on:

- Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba
- Royal Palace of Madrid
- Royal Alcázar of Seville
- Plaza Mayor

Sun-Kissed Beaches
Though summer is over, the idyllic Spanish beaches are still a must-see.
Most of the country experiences temperatures of 55 to 75°F (12-23°C) in October, so not quite high enough for a hot day at the beach.
However, there might still be some regions where the sunbathing season is open even as we approach late autumn.
That’s ultimately a moot point, though, as you’ll be able to take in the beauty and allure of the Spanish Riviera even if you don’t get to swim in one of the many bodies of water that surround the idyllic country.
Rich Culinary Experiences
If there’s one facet of Spanish culture that can be thoroughly enjoyed year-round, it’s the world-class cuisine.
Local dishes are renowned for their delectable flavors, pungent aromas, and diverse profiles.
Take the time to research local eateries, and don’t hesitate to try all of the country’s iconic delicacies no matter where you are.
While paellas, for example, are obviously best enjoyed in Valencia, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a sub-par variation of the dish all over the country, so make it a point to try it at least once during your travels here.
Fresh seafood, savory chorizo, and Spanish cheeses should make their way into your plate at least once. Don’t forget to accompany your meal with a glass of Sherry or Tempranillo.
Diverse Landscapes
Spain is not only stunning but also geographically diverse.
While most know the country for its ethereal beaches, there’s no shortage of snowy peaks and sunlit plains, either.
That’s why outdoor enthusiasts will have the time of their lives here, especially now that the weather is perfect for physical activity and doesn’t leave you drenched in sweat or shivering.
Hike in the picturesque Picos de Europa, explore the volcanic terrain of the Canary Islands, or walk through the Doñana National Park – whatever you do, make sure to take the time to really take in the gorgeous Spanish landscape.
Vibrant Nightlife
If you’ve yet to get tired from your daytime hikes, you’ll be pleased to learn that Spain’s legendary nightlife is second to none.
Madrid, Barcelona, and Ibiza, in particular, are home to some of the world’s best, most exciting nightclubs.
Those looking for a more traditional night out, though, might want to consider going to one of the local taverns with authentic flamenco performances that’ll leave you amazed.
Either way, Spain makes the perfect destination to dance the night away.
