The travel experts at Vogue have issued their list of the best spots for a sunny escape this winter. We have narrowed it down to the best in Latin America for a mix of easily accessible, cultural, and most importantly, sunny escapes.
These 4 sunny escapes were just named as the best in Latin America this winter:
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Should we be surprised Punta Cana made the list? Of course not. This world-renowned beach hotspot has been flourishing with vacationers for years.
This year was a big one for the Dominican Republic (D.R.) but 2024 will perhaps be even bigger. This year saw the opening of new resorts and the country’s first theme to top off a fun family getaway in Punta Cana.
Next year, the D.R. will see even more new resorts and flights across the country, but Punta Cana continues to shine the brightest.
This region is a safe haven for tourists of all ages with a conveniently located airport, easily accessible resorts and some of the top beaches in the Caribbean, such as Bavaro.
Tulum, Mexico
There may be no trendier destination this winter than Tulum. With the opening of a brand new international airport and scenic Mayan train, hordes of travelers are expected to invade this gorgeous region of Mexico.
Beginning next month, but more so in March when a majority of flights launch, Tulum will be more accessible than ever by air with a handful of airlines announcing direct flights from the U.S.
With a thriving arts scene, beautiful beaches and a unique culture setting it apart from other nearby vacation hotspots, Tulum should definitely be pinned on your map.
Vogue highlights Casa Chablé as their top stay with nearby cenotes, reefs and jungles to explore. Taking time to see the remarkable Mayan ruins is a must as well.
San Jose, Costa Rica
Costa Rica is a nature lover’s paradise with endless ways to immerse yourself with wildlife, beaches and lush jungles.
Expected to be one of the trendiest countries in 2024, San Jose is the most popular gateway into the country.
The capital city is not typically a highlight on anyone’s Costa Rican itinerary with so many less-crowded places to see beyond the biggest city in the nation.
Plus, there has been a mixed bag of crime reports, primarily in this city, throughout the year. The rest of the country is generally considered safe, including for solo travelers.

Bahia, Brazil
Brazil has been a trendy spot this year, but where do you start? Such a massive country is home to so many wondrous places to check off your travel bucket list.
Vogue believes the answer to that is Bahia – a northeastern state neighboring Minas Gerais with some of the country’s most prized coastlines and cultural hubs.
Surely, travelers are aware of Rio de Janeiro at the very least, but Salvador will rock your socks off with its vibrant architecture, timeless cobbled streets and local surf spots.
Trancoso may not be on your radar, but it should be. This coastal town is home to 15 miles of gold sand beaches and a rich bohemian culture you’ll love to explore while avoiding the crazy crowds of Rio.
Some would say it’s Brazil’s own version of Tulum, just lesser known. Vogue highlights the lovely hotels in the region as a place to rest your head and kick back during the day with fresh ceviche and a cold, refreshing caipirinha in hand.
