It’s Never Been Easier To Get To Monterrey
Flying to Monterrey this season will be easier than ever thanks to new non-stop flights from the ultra low-cost Mexican airline Viva Aerobus.
On January 25th, the carrier began offering its first non-stop flights from Denver International Airport to Monterrey twice a week.
And Denver is just the first out of six major US airports that will see new flights to Monterrey this year.
Austin, Orlando, Miami, Oakland, and New York will also be launching new nonstop routes through Viva Aerobus.
Tickets for these new flights will start from $65 for a one way trip according to the carrier.
Perfect Weather
Late winter is the perfect time to explore this city if you want the best weather.
Monterrey’s driest months are in winter, so you can look forward to plenty of sunshine during your holiday.
Visiting Monterey in January and February means you can expect average high temperatures in the mid-70s to low 80s.
This Spring-like weather is the perfect break from cold, cloudy days.
Going to Mexico during these cooler months will allow you to comfortably hike and wander the colorful streets without tiring quickly from the Mexican heat.
Monterrey’s A Great Destination For Nature Lovers
Located in the Northwestern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon, framed by the majestic Sierra Madre mountain range, Monterrey is an underrated destination for nature lovers.
Within an hour of the city, travelers can find fascinating caves, rushing waterfalls, and memorable hikes.
The Ecological Park Chimpique boasts over 60 km of hiking and biking trails, its crown jewel being the 2,260-meter peak Copete de las Aguilas, nicknamed Eagle’s Peak.
This popular, challenging hike rewards visitors with unmatched views of the city and surrounding landscape.
Mountain enthusiasts can also hike Cerro de la Silla, the massive mountain that watches over Monterrey.
Take a short drive outside the city, and you’ll find the 60 million-year-old Garcia Cave system, which offers unique caverns to explore.
Excellent Museums and Its Beautiful Macro Plaza
Macro Plaza is one of the largest plazas in the world and the cultural center of Monterrey.
You’ll find several must-see buildings and attractions located here, including the Cathedral Metropolitana de Nuestra Señora de Monterre, Government Palace of Nuevo León, and Fountain of Neptune.
The plaza is an excellent place to spend a day taking in the city on foot and seeing where modern Mexico blurs with its charming old architecture.
Museo de Arte Contemporáneo, or MARCO, is one of Mexico’s best modern art museums and a can’t-miss attraction for culture enthusiasts and art lovers visiting Monterrey. Budget travelers will rejoice that the art museum has free admission. History buffs will enjoy an afternoon spent at Museo De Historia Mexicana (Mexican History Museum) or the Metropolitan Museum of Monterrey.
The Charming Streets Of This City’s Old Town
If you venture east of the Macroplaza, you’ll soon be greeted by the colorful buildings and cobblestone streets of Barrio Antiguo.
This idyllic neighborhood is the center of Monterrey’s nightlife and the perfect place to spend an afternoon of people-watching in cafes or shopping at Mercado Barrio Antiguo, a mall designed in the fashion of a historical market.
Monterrey is the right combination of modern Mexico and charming old town streets, complete with enough natural beauty, cultural interest, and delicious Mexican cuisine to make for a great trip.
